eBay could be about to enter the crypto world. If advertisements at the Consensus conference in New York are true, the e-commerce giant could be adopting crypto payments in the immediate future.

“Virtual Currency. It’s happening on eBay”

Although there has not been an official announcement, the news would allow eBay’s 180 million active buyers to start using cryptocurrencies as a form of payment. This could have a direct impact on the mainstream adoption of crypto assets around the world.

A telegram account by the handle @PatronsofTheMoon leaked the images hinting that an announcement could be made during the Consensus conference this week in New York City..

After the images were leaked, the market began speculating about which cryptocurrencies will be accepted. A wide range of rumors swirled about the acceptance of the majors, including bitcoin, litecoin and even Binance Coin.

Nonetheless, the strongest rumors point out a possible partnership with the payments processor UTRUST, which is an international payment gateway that accepts cryptocurrencies on behalf of merchants and exchanges them for fiat currencies.

In 2018, UTRUST hired Sanja Kon, a former eBay, and Paypal executive, as their Vice President of Global Partnerships.

“Sanja’s experience at PayPal and eBay makes her the perfect person to help UTRUST drive merchant adoption of our crypto-payments platform… We anticipate that she will be a key driver in elevating UTRUST’s brand in the crypto-commerce space and ultimately the future of online payments industry.”

UTRUST executives have yet to comment on the possible partnership with the e-commerce giant.

eBay is one of the main sponsors at Consensus, which demonstrates their interest in the cryptocurrency space, and if the signage is true, it will soon be exposing its nearly 180 million users to cryptocurrency as a means of payment.
