AXA is targeting the lucrative travel insurance market in China with a new offering that is integrated directly into the WeChat mobile app.

wechat-appMore than one billion users in China alone use WeChat to access instant messaging and manage e-commerce services, making it the most popular app in the country.

AXA plans to offer a one-click travel insurance plan through WeChat Go, the app ecosystem dedicated to international tourism, at every step before, during and after a user’s trip.

The company hopes that 1% of the 135 million annual Chinese tourists will be insured through AXA Go within the next three years.

The WeChat coverage will also offer additional services such as information on the destination country, including weather, social climate and sanitary conditions.

It will also feature an emergency button for repatriation or hospitalisation, claims due to late or lost luggage, and fast lanes for premium users.

AXA explained that it was launching the product in China after a successful eight-month development phase.

WeChat’s integrated insurance platform, WeSure, announced in November 2018 that it had partnered with 20 insurance and reinsurance companies to diversify its offerings, including Taikang, Pacific Insurance, PICC, Ping An and MetLife.
